UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to supporting women and gender equality in Ukraine. They were the driving force behind the return of the Women in Arts award after a year of forced silence.

On March 7, 2023, we organized the fourth ceremony, titled The Resistance. The event celebrated the achievements of women in culture, art, and volunteering across two years — 2021 and 2022. It featured dozens of nominees, guests from the cultural and media sectors, and the premiere of the video manifesto "YOU ARE A GREAT FORCE."

Conclusion

We organized an event that proved one thing: even during wartime, culture does not stay silent — it resists.

Bringing back the award after a year of silence was about more than just logistics. It was a statement that culture remains vital even when a country is at war. Women in Arts. The Resistance was exactly that kind of statement.

The women honored that evening didn't just preserve art — they helped bring victory closer. Volunteers, artists, cultural managers, and media professionals. Each one of them is a unique story of resistance.

Our role was to ensure the event was held with the dignity it deserved. To make sure the space, the atmosphere, and every detail matched the gravity of the moment. That is our job — to create the conditions where what matters can happen.
